Unique aquaculture by-products
Aquaculture is not only about providing quality fish and seafood products for human consumption. Certified aquaculture companies are finding innovative applications for by-products of production. One example is collagen. Collagen is a protein and the primary component of connective tissue. As we get older our collagen production slows, one result of this is our skin loses its elasticity. Farm-raised fish such as Pangasius and tilapia are excellent sources of collagen and gelatin which are used in nutraceuticals and cosmetics. Farmed white fish are not the only source of unique by-products. In Norway, farmed salmon are a source of healthy omega 3 fatty acids, protein and calcium for nutraceuticals.
