Aquaculture is the ‘controlled breeding of organisms that live in water', and it has been feeding people in Africa, Europe and Asia for thousands of years. Fish are reared under a variety of conditions, based on highly differing historical and cultural circumstances, and traded between entire continents. They are cultivated on farms in the poorest countries of Africa and Asia and the richest countries of Europe and the Americas, on scales ranging from small local farmers to multinational companies and marketed all over the world. Clearly, underwater farming is deserving of just as much attention as arable and pastoral farming.

Aquaculture with GGN stands not only for a dialogue between aquafarmers and consumers all over the world but also for a joint responsibility for man, animals and the environment.
